[edit] THE CROSSPOOL FORUM, run entirely by volunteers for the good of the community
“Highly Commended” for a 2008 “Environmental Community Award”,
The idea for the Crosspool Forum came in late 2002, under the auspices of Dave Aspinall (then South West Area Co-ordinator), and was launched in June 2003. Monthly committee meetings (with sub-committees) to tackle local issues, along with quarterly open meetings for all local residents, are held in St Columba’s Church Hall. Reports of open meeting minutes, together with items of local interest, letters, and adverts are published in the ‘Crosspool Clarion’, which is than delivered to over 2500 households in the area.
The Forum tackles issues such as litter, grass verge parking, local bus services/shelters, planning applications, tree replacement and the like. It had a large input into the 2007 traffic management scheme through the Crosspool shopping precinct alterations, and has secured the Hagg Copse (Coldwell Lane/ Manchester Road junction) as a community ‘Green Area’.
Through its excellent interaction with the Area Panel, council officers, local councillors, schools and Police, the Forum is committed to preserving and improving Crosspool’s first-rate access to the countryside, village atmosphere, good neighbourliness and general character of the area!
For the past four years we’ve held a Summer Fayre in July at the CDYST’s premises on Coldwell Lane, and car boot sales in June and September at the Crosspool Tavern. The Première thinking behind these events was to promote a community spirit, with all the proceeds going towards helping to provide summer hanging baskets, planters and other such things that develop and enhance the area. On Mayday 08 the installation of a bench, (made possible by generous donations), made a welcome addition to the precinct.
Fresh input such as articles for the ‘Clarion’, help at the Summer Fayre, and committee membership is always welcome; please contact the Chairman Ian Hague at crosspoolforum@fsmail.net or telephone 0114 3351674.

[edit] Hagg Copse
Saturday 24th November 2007 10am Media coverage of a hedge planting day by the local Beavers, Cubs & Scouts
- With the help of the Sheffield Council Park Rangers a rustic bench has now been installed at Hagg Copse. Why not take a stroll out to Hagg Copse, enjoy a sit-down amongst the flora & fauna. Observe the birds busy in the undergrowth looking for nest building materials. See if your can spot the plant life, first planted in the autumn, coming into flower. We will be helping out those busy birds later on this year by putting up some bird boxes, along with a few bat boxes. If anybody observes any unusual birds or wildlife within the Copse, it would be useful to let the Crosspool Forum management committee know. This information can be useful in protecting a site from future developments. So, take time out of your busy schedule and enjoy our little wildlife haven.
